BBC专访：世界低估了中美寻求战略稳定的决心

BBC：我们连线到了中国人民大学重阳金融研究院院长、全球领导力学院院长、教授王文，很高兴能与您交谈。我们了解到，习近平主席表示他和特朗普总统在许多问题上达成了共识。我想问的是，从历史上看，美中两国一直未能找到太多共同点。那么您认为这种共识可能是什么？

王文：首先，我认为这是一次具有历史意义的伟大访问。这意味着两国领导人今年可以会面四次。从这个角度来看，我认为两国领导人之间的频繁会晤是中美两国建立建设性战略稳定关系的基础，甚至是未来的战略互信。

我们可以很明显地看到，习近平主席尊重特朗普总统。而特朗普总统亲自到机场迎接习近平主席的罕见举动，也表明了特朗普总统对习近平主席的尊重。所以我认为这就是所谓的共同共识。可以说，中美两国、两国领导人都在努力避免“修昔底德陷阱”，寻求一种新型的共存模式。所以现在我们对中美关系的未来越来越有信心。

BBC：是的，我想特朗普总统也说过，会晤很顺利，他和习近平主席谈得非常愉快。他还称赞了自己与中国国家主席习近平的良好友谊。在中国，在您所在的北京，人们对此有何看法？那里的反应如何？

王文：现在北京以及全中国的人们都在密切关注这次会晤。所以我认为世界低估了中美两国寻求战略稳定的决心，也低估了特朗普总统自身的战略理性。因为我们知道特朗普是一个实用主义者。他清楚地看到了中国不断增强的实力，并认为美国正在衰落。因此，他选择了一条与中国合作的务实道路，以共同建设未来的世界。

举个例子，他就像一个商人。当他发现另一家强大的公司时，我认为顺理成章的选择是合作，通常情况下是与强大的公司一起共同获利，而不是进行对抗。所以我认为，过去人们往往只通过政治视角来看待中美关系。但大家忘记了特朗普总统也是个商人，这种关系也应该从商业的角度来看待。

BBC: I can bring in Wang Wen, professor and dean of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University, great to be able to speak with you. Look, we understand Xi Jinping says that they reached a common understanding on many issues. I mean, historically, they haven't been able to find much common ground between the US and China. So what do you think this common understanding might be?

Wang Wen: First of all, I think it's a great visit of historical significance. It implies that the two leaders can meet four times this year. So from this perspective, I think frequent meetings between the two leaders can build the relationship of strategies and stability, even strategic mutual trust in the future. We can see very ovbiously that President Xi respects President Trump. And President Trump's rare gesture of personally greeting President Xi at the airport demonstrates that President Trump also respects President Xi. So I think it is a so-called common consensus. So I would even go so far as to say that the two nations, the two leaders, are striving to avoid Thucydides Trap and seek for a new model of co-existence. So now we are increasingly confident about the future of the China-US relations.

BBC: Yeah, I guess Trump also said that the meetings were good and they had great talks. And he touted a good friendship with the Chinese president. How has this been taken in China and Beijing where you are? What's the reaction there?

Wang Wen: Now every person in Beijing and China, we focus on the meeting. So I think the world has underestimated both the determination of China and the US to seek strategic stability. And President Trump's own strategic rationality. Because we know that Trump is a pragmatist. He clearly perceives China's growing strengths and believes that the US is in decline. Consequently, he has chosen a pragmatic path of cooperating with China to jointly build the world in the future. It's like, to give you an example, like a business person. When he discovered another powerful company, I think it's a natural choice to collaborate and generate profit. together with a powerful company rather than engaging in a confrontation. So I think in the past, people tend to view China-US relationship through a political lens. But forgetting that Trump is a business person, the relationship should be viewed from a commercial perspective.
